Sun Moon Lake

Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake.Wonderful view. Thanks to st66597!

The Shueishe Trail along the waterfront between Shueishe Pier and Chaowu Pier is the best spot for taking the rest and viewing the sunrise.
Nestled at 760 meters, this lake is famous for its clear, sparkling blue water set against a picturesque mountain backdrop. This is the largest lake in Taiwan and a traditional spot for newlywed couples to take their honeymoon.Situated in Yuchi , Nantou , the area around the Sun Moon Lake is home to the Thao tribe, one of aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu . The east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west side resembles a moon, hence the name.

Taiwan. Tung flowers in May, Gongguan Miaoli. Amazing postcard. Thanks to st66597!

"May Snow"-Tung flower blossoms  .One of the most beautiful postcard I ever received. Taiwan is really attractive place!
Tung trees are deciduous trees with a height up to 20 meters tall, which can commonly be found in southern China, Burma, and northwestern Taiwan, including Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung County, Changhua County, Nantou County and many other Taiwan cities. Today, you may find a great selection of productions made by Tung trees, such as Tung oil – the oil commonly used in paint, varnish, caulking, wood finish, as well as coating of the paper umbrellas, woods of Tung trees – the wood use for furniture, wooden clogs, toothpicks, and matches, and Tung Flowers – Tung Flowers can be found as the ingredient of many Hakka delicacies.

Tung trees were planted in Taiwan’s Hakka areas and served as a significant source of income for the people, extracting oil from the tree seeds, wood as raw materials, flowers as food ingredients. Today, with cheaper alternatives, Tung trees are no longer as important economically to the Hakka. However, the people still cherish the plant and regard it as a symbol of their culture yet choosing the Tung flower as the symbol of the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival due to the Hakka’s strong attachment to the plant.

Taiwan. Longhu (Dragon and Tiger) Pagodas. Really fantastic feature! Many thanks to st66597!!!

Built in 1976, Dragon Tiger Tower consists of two pagodas, the Dragon and the Tiger. Both pagodas are seven-story high, symbolizing the meaning of the seven-leveled stupa in Buddhism. Each level of the pagodas features twelve angles, yellow walls, red pillars and orange roof tiles. As the sun shines, the image of the pagodas in saturated colors reflects on the pond. The reflection has always attracted visitors to stop and take photos.
