"May Snow"-Tung flower blossoms  .One of the most beautiful postcard I ever received. Taiwan is really attractive place!
Tung trees are deciduous trees with a height up to 20 meters tall, which can commonly be found in southern China, Burma, and northwestern Taiwan, including Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung County, Changhua County, Nantou County and many other Taiwan cities. Today, you may find a great selection of productions made by Tung trees, such as Tung oil – the oil commonly used in paint, varnish, caulking, wood finish, as well as coating of the paper umbrellas, woods of Tung trees – the wood use for furniture, wooden clogs, toothpicks, and matches, and Tung Flowers – Tung Flowers can be found as the ingredient of many Hakka delicacies.

Tung trees were planted in Taiwan’s Hakka areas and served as a significant source of income for the people, extracting oil from the tree seeds, wood as raw materials, flowers as food ingredients. Today, with cheaper alternatives, Tung trees are no longer as important economically to the Hakka. However, the people still cherish the plant and regard it as a symbol of their culture yet choosing the Tung flower as the symbol of the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival due to the Hakka’s strong attachment to the plant.
